What is multi-tenancy on ThingsBoard Cloud? ThingsBoard Cloud is a shared multi-tenant platform. Every Cloud subscription is a Tenant — your own isolated environment, owning its devices, assets, and dashboards. You get full data isolation without operating any infrastructure yourself.

How does ThingsBoard Cloud organize tenants? ThingsBoard provisions and manages your tenant for you — each subscription maps to exactly one Tenant. The account created during subscription becomes that tenant’s Tenant Administrator, with full administrative access to its resources and configuration — scoped entirely to this tenant, with no visibility into other tenants or platform-wide administration.

ThingsBoard organizational hierarchy:

• Tenant: Top-level organizational entity representing an independent company or business unit. Owns and manages its resources, such as devices, assets, and dashboards.
• Customer: Logical sub-organization within a tenant, representing a client organization, regional branch, or internal department — used to organize and scope a subset of the tenant’s resources for secure access delegation.
• User: Authenticated account with assigned roles and permissions. Can belong to either the tenant or one of its customers and accesses only the resources available within its scope.
